This week is U.S. Antimicrobial Awareness Week. Antimicrobial resistance is a growing problem worldwide. At least 2 million people in the United States become infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria, with at least 23,000 people dying from those infections because they could not be treated with antibiotics. Antimicrobial resistance occurs because of the use of antibiotics, whether people use them when they don’t need to or if they are not optimally effective as prescribed. Raise awareness about this problem and the importance of appropriate antibiotic prescription and use!
