POLICY & ADVOCACY
Upcoming Events:

Legislative Week: October 23-28

For decades, pharmacists are among the few health professionals that are not recognized as healthcare providers under federal law. Giving pharmacists provider status will enable them to better serve their patients.

Specific to Hawaii, here are the bills that have been recently signed into law by Governor David Ige:

SB 513: Authorizes pharmacists who meet specific requirements to prescribe and dispense contraceptives.

SB 514: Authorizes pharmacists to administer the HPV vaccine to children between the ages of eleven and seventeen.

SB 505: Limits initial prescriptions for opioids and benzodiazepines to a maximum of seven consecutive days.

Future legislation:

SB 272: Appropriates funds to the University of Hawaii at Hilo, the department of health, the department of land and natural resources, and the department of agriculture for programs, studies, and activities related to the prevention and eradication of rat lung worm disease.
