Happy World Polio Day!
Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease caused by the poliovirus. It only infects humans and can spread through person-to-person contact. People infected with poliovirus may experience flu-like symptoms, while more serious symptoms include paralysis and development of meningitis. Asymptomatic individuals can still spread the virus. Polio can be prevented through immunization. There has been a worldwide reduction in polio cases of 99.9% with only three countries left where polio has been observed. We are almost there! Raise awareness about the spread of polio and the global effort to eradicate polio. Prevent infection through immunization efforts against polio in every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.
